Introduction

This web page is a portal for the IBTrACS data. IBTrACS contains global tropical cyclone best-track data, collected from agencies in every ocean basin. The project has been endorsed by the World Meteorological Organization as the offical archiving and distribution resource for best-track data. The data were collected and processed by the IBTrACS group at the NOAA National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC.

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of North Carolina Asheville has been engaged in the development of a dataset of global tropical cloud clusters. Cloud clusters are large areas of tropical convection that may develop into tropical cyclones. These data will be made available through the IBTrACS project at the National Climatic Data Center and this portal (Spring 2011).

The menu at left provides access to IBTrACS data. Please contact Dr. Christopher Hennon (chennon_at_unca.edu) if you have any questions or comments.
